Bilateral armaments meeting with Norway and Finland

Bern, 16.11.2021 - From 17 to 18 November 2021 National Armaments Director Martin Sonderegger, accompanied by a delegation, will visit first Norwegian National Armaments Director Morten Tiller and then Finnish National Armaments Director Raimo Jyväsjärvi. Both bilateral meetings will focus on talks about current procurement projects. In Norway, discussions will concentrate specifically on the experiences gained with the procurement and deployment of the F-35A.

Swiss National Armaments Director Martin Sonderegger and Norwegian National Armaments Director Morten Tiller are meeting on 17 November 2021 in Oslo. On 18 November, 2021, the delegation will move on to Helsinki, where it will meet Finnish National Armaments Director Raimo Jyväsjärvi. The discussions will involve a mutual exchange of information on the current status of ongoing procurements and the latest challenges in research and development.

Exchange of information with Norway on the F-35A fighter aircraft

Among other things, the National Armaments Director will report on the two type decisions by the Federal Council in the Air2030 Programme, i.e. the procurement of 36 F-35A fighter aircraft and five Patriot firing units. Type F-35A aircraft are already deployed in Norway. In this meeting, the exchange will focus on Norway’s experience in procurement and operations.

Exchange of information with Finland on life cycle management for the F/A-18

In Finland, the discussions will include life cycle management for the existing F/A-18 fleet. In addition, the impact of ever shorter innovation cycles on the procurement process will be discussed.

Direct contact and mutual exchange of experiences are key objectives of the bilateral meetings. The last meeting with Norway took place from 13 to 14 February 2019 in Oslo, the one with Finland on 1 November 2016 in Bern.
