Switzerland has a long-standing tradition of fully supporting the reform of the United Nations. The reform aims to bring modernity and efficiency to the UN system, in particular to achieve the objectives of the 2030 Agenda.
The resident coordinator (RC) system encompasses all organisations of the United Nations system involved in operational activities for development. The RC system and the Development Coordination Office, headed by Mr Piper, have a key role in the ongoing reform of the United Nations development system at national, regional and global levels.

Regular dialogue for an effective UN system
At the meeting, the head of the SDC officially informed Mr Piper of the renewal of Swiss support to the RC system in the amount of CHF 9.4 million. " Our partnership with the Development Coordination Office and our financial support to the RC system are an important contribution to the SDC's strategic goal of promoting a more effective multilateral system, which in turn is key to strengthening the SDC's own development effectiveness," explains Danzi.

Mr Piper and Ms Danzi also talked about the challenges and opportunities for the RC system in the context of the reform and discussed Switzerland's commitment to strengthening the RC system at the global and national levels.

Switzerland has set the objective of more effective multilateralism in its Foreign Policy Strategy 2020–23, while multilateralism is a key pillar of its International Cooperation Strategy 2021–24.

Effective multilateralism is crucial to achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda. Regular dialogue between Switzerland and the Development Coordination Office is an important opportunity for Switzerland to advance its interests and influence the multilateral system.
