Air2030: “New Fighter Aircraft” project awarded bronze in international project management competition
Bern, 23.09.2021 - armasuisse achieves with its project "New Fighter Aircraft" the third place in the international IPMA Global Project Excellence Awards competition. The three finalists in the large-scale project category come from Russia, Algeria and Switzerland. The final took place on 22 September 2021 in St. Petersburg. The competition is organized by the globally recognised project management association IPMA (International Project Management Association).
A project selected as a finalist of the IPMA Global Project Excellence Awards is characterised by strong leadership, clear target orientation and sound processes. In addition, the nomination by the IMPA jury confirms that armasuisse regularly analysed the processes within the project and adapted them where appropriate. In addition to the recognition, participation in the competition and the external assessment also serve as a basis for the continuous improvement of leadership activities and processes over the further course of the project.
Apart from armasuisse, the projects “Sber Antifraud 2.0” from Sberbank of Russia from Russia (gold winner) and “Ecoquartier Hacene Malik” by Sarl Achim Real Estate from Algeria (finalist) also qualified for the Final. The members of this year’s IPMA jury come from Poland, Germany, China and Switzerland.
International competition as a benchmark
armasuisse handles the procurement of military equipment on the basis of projects and endeavours to apply continuous learning and development processes. This includes measuring itself against the market and being able to improve itself using benchmarking, such as by means of an independent assessment by experienced assessors as part of the IPMA competition. The IPMA has been organising the international competition annually since 2002 for projects and programmes in which teams that have been able to demonstrate special achievements in project and programme management receive awards. The assessors, who come from various different countries and are experienced in project management, judge projects among other means through audits and interviews with the project client, project management, project team members and other stakeholders. The assessment based on a model described in the IPMA Standard for Project Excellence Baseline (PEB). No information need to be issued regarding the content of the project for the assessment. Sensitive data is therefore protected. The results of the assessment circulate to the jury of the IPMA who then decides on the competition finalists as well as the holders of the first three places.
International Project Management Association
The IPMA was founded in 1965 as the first internationally operating project management association and has its headquarters in Europe. Today, the IPMA comprises around 70 national organisations and has more than 40,000 members worldwide. The IPMA issues a number of standards. In addition to the IPMA Project Excellence Baseline (PEB), the IPMA Individual Competence Baseline (ICB) serves as a basis for the national certification programmes of project managers, according to which around 350,000 individuals have been certified to date. With the organisation and presentation of their Global Project Excellence Awards, the IPMA supports project teams in their continuous improvement efforts.
