Marked decline in GDP in 2020 following COVID-19

Neuchâtel, 26.08.2021 - The gross domestic product (GDP) of Switzerland fell by 2.4% in 2020 at the previous year’s prices. This marked drop is the consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, which particularly affected certain parts of the Swiss economy. This crisis brought about a sharp decline in domestic demand and foreign trade. The gross national income (GNI) also fell by 2.9% at current prices. These initial estimates for 2020 from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) are accompanied by a revision of the results from 2018 and 2019.
