Switzerland takes over presidency of Intra-European Organisation of Tax Administrations

Bern, 01.07.2021 - The Intra-European Organisation of Tax Administrations (IOTA) entrusts the presidency for the 2021/2022 term of office to Switzerland. The Confederation will be represented by Marc Bugnon, Deputy Director of the Federal Tax Administration (FTA).

Marc Bugnon has represented Switzerland for several years in the IOTA Executive Council, which he will now chair until the next General Assembly. He has been Deputy Director of the FTA since 2015. He studied law, worked at the Administrative Court of the canton of Fribourg and was Head of the Legal Division of the Main Division for Federal Direct Tax, Anticipatory Tax and Stamp Duty (DAS) from 2004, before taking over as Head of the Main Division DAS in 2014. The FTA has been a member of IOTA since 2006 and has been a member of the nine-member Executive Council since summer 2019. Switzerland was previously represented in the Executive Council from 2006 to 2013, with a one-year break, and held the presidency in 2012/2013. The Executive Council determines the strategy and decides on the work and training programmes. IOTA has its headquarters in Budapest and was founded in October 1996. It currently has 44 members, including the national tax authorities of all the countries in the European Union (EU). IOTA provides European tax administrations with a discussion forum for tax issues and is currently focusing on improving the international exchange of tax data.
