Ignazio Cassis to meet Jean-Yves Le Drian in Paris

Bern, 16.06.2021 - On Thursday 17 June, Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis will be in Paris to meet with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian. Talks will focus on Swiss–EU relations and relations between Switzerland and France.

Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) Ignazio Cassis will meet his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian to put forward Switzerland's perspective on European policy following the Federal Council's decision of 26 May. The two foreign ministers will discuss this and other international issues over a formal working dinner.

Close Swiss–French ties
The meeting will provide an opportunity to celebrate the richness of Swiss–French relations. The two countries' bilateral relations cover a wide range of areas, with regular discussions at all levels.

From an economic standpoint, France is Switzerland's fifth largest trading partner. Over 44% of trade between France and Switzerland is focused on border regions and exceeds Switzerland's volume of trade with Japan and Brazil combined. There are over 1,900 Swiss companies in France employing around 114,000 people, primarily in the border regions and in and around Paris.
