Public debates about the internet and digitalisation at the next Swiss IGF

Biel/Bienne, 07.06.2021 - The digital state, the role of digitalisation in addressing the coronavirus crisis, digital inclusion, cyber attacks and media in the internet age will be the focus of the Swiss Internet Governance Forum (Swiss IGF) 2021. The sixth Swiss forum for internet governance will take place online on 21 June 2021.

The discussion topics to be addressed at the Swiss IGF were selected on the basis of a public call for issues. Participants will discuss the digital state, the role of the internet and digitalisation in addressing the coronavirus crisis, digital inclusion, cyber attacks and media in the internet age. At the end of the virtual event, the main findings from the discussions will be adopted as "Messages from Bern" and will be forwarded to the global and European IGF. Bernard Maissen, Director of the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM), will open the forum with an address.

Launched by OFCOM, the Swiss IGF brings together all interested players from the state administration, the political, business and science communities and from civil society to discuss concrete ways of meeting the challenges and exploiting the opportunities offered by the internet and digitalisation. Owing to the coronavirus situation, the forum will once again be held online this year, on 21 June 2021. The Swiss IGF is an offshoot of the UN Internet Governance Forum, which was created to discuss the rules for use of the internet ("internet governance").

Remarks on organisation:

Participation in the virtual Swiss IGF is open to all and free of charge. All participants can take part in the discussion as equal partners. The Swiss IGF will be held in the three languages German, French and English with simultaneous interpretation. All those interested in taking part should enrol at www.igf.swiss by 17 June. Programme details are also available at this address. Throughout the event, news will be posted on Twitter (@Swiss_IGF) and on Facebook (@SwissIGF) using the hashtag #SwissIGF21.
