Working visit of Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer to Slovenia's Minister of Finance, Andrej Šircelj

Bern, 28.05.2021 - On 28 May 2021, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer will be in Ljubljana for a working visit with his Slovenian counterpart, Andrej Šircelj. During the meeting, bilateral finance and tax issues between Switzerland and the EU will be addressed. Federal Councillor Maurer will also pay a courtesy call on President Borut Pahor and visit UNESCO's International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence.

The visit is in view of Slovenia's presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will begin on 1 July. Meetings of this nature take place regularly to discuss the priorities and positions of the presiding country. They also provide an opportunity to deepen bilateral economic and financial relations.

Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer and Minister of Finance Andrej Šircelj will discuss the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences, as well as the measures planned by the EU. Bilateral issues with the EU in the financial market area, such as stock market equivalence, as well as tax issues like the taxation of the digital economy and the exchange of tax-related information will likewise be addressed.

Moreover, the visit will provide an opportunity to visit UNESCO's International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI), focusing on how artificial intelligence can best be used to capitalise on its benefits and minimise risks. Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer will be accompanied by Dirk Lindemann, Director of the Federal Office of Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunication (FOITT).
