Hospital Medical Statistics 2017–2019 - A minority of patients account for half of hospitalisation days

Neuchâtel, 22.03.2021 - The distribution of hospitalisation days was very uneven among those hospitalised between 2017 and 2019. Thus, 11% of patients were hospitalised for at least 21 days over a 2-year period and accounted for half of hospitalisation days in acute somatic care. These persons are often older in age with half being over 73. The median cost of their hospitalisations is seven times higher than for persons associated with a shorter stay. These are the findings of a new publication from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
