The first consortia start the new energy research programme SWEET

Bern, 18.02.2021 - The results have been announced of the first call for proposals in the new energy research programme SWEET (Swiss Energy Research for the Energy Transition). An international panel of experts has awarded the contract to four consortia. The host institutions of these research consortia are ETHZ, EPFL, the University of Geneva and the PSI. Over the next six to eight years, they will work on their research tasks in trans- and interdisciplinary projects.

The first call for proposals in the SWEET energy research programme was entitled 'Integration of renewables into a sustainable and resilient Swiss energy system' (see media release of 25.06.2020). Thirteen consortium projects were submitted, which were rated by two international panels of experts according to the four research challenges. The top four consortia were awarded a contract.

The maximum funding is CHF 8 million for research tasks 1 to 3 and CHF 6 million for research task 4. The research tasks must be approached in a transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary manner. To this end, the consortia draw up portfolios of interrelated projects on which they will work over the next six to eight years.
