Women’s labour market participation and qualification levels rose sharply between 2010 and 2019

Neuchâtel, 27.11.2020 - Between 2010 and 2019, the employment rate of women showed a marked increase from 56.9% to 60.0%. The increase was particularly pronounced among 55 to 64 year-olds, as well as mothers whose youngest child was aged under 7. Furthermore, 50.1% of employed women in 2019 were working in highly qualified occupations (+8.8 percentage points compared with 2010). A trend towards more highly qualified women can also be observed in Europe (EU/EFTA). These are some of the findings from the “Women’s labour market participation 2010-2019” publication (available in French and German) from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
