Federal Council appoints Rolf Götschmann as FDF Secretary General

Bern, 11.11.2020 - During its meeting today, the Federal Council appointed Rolf Götschmann, currently Deputy Secretary General of the Federal Department of Finance (FDF), to the post of Secretary General of the FDF. On 1 March 2021, he will succeed Rahel von Kaenel, who will take up her new appointment as Director of the Federal Office of Personnel (FOPERS) on the same date.

For the successor of Rahel von Kaenel as FDF Secretary General, a person with clear strategic and conceptional thinking, leadership skills and outstanding commitment was sought. The position also requires a flair for organisation and excellent communication skills. Finally, there are high expectations as regards the ability to cooperate and enter into dialogue with other federal offices and the FDF's external partners.

Rolf Götschmann is 55 years old and studied History, German and Media at the University of Bern, obtaining his degree in 1995. In 1996, he joined the Federal Office for Refugees as a country officer, holding various posts and functions within the Federal Department of Justice and Police. On 1 November 2011, he joined the FDF as scientific adjunct and Head of Business Administration and Planning, and was appointed as Deputy Secretary General and Head of the Staff Division at the FDF at the start of April 2014. In this function, he supports the procurement and preparation of the information required by the Head of Department for his management duties. Together with his staff, he is responsible for Federal Council and parliamentary affairs. He represents the FDF in numerous projects and working groups.

Besides a well-rounded university education, Rolf Götschmann also has many years of wide-ranging professional and management experience. He has an excellent knowledge of the General Secretariat's central business areas. Moreover, he is well acquainted with political procedure and FDF business, and has very good connections in the Federal Administration. In addition to his mother tongue, German, he is fluent in French and English and has a good command of Italian.

With Rolf Götschmann, a very conscientious, committed and loyal person has been found to take over the leadership of the General Secretariat. He has everything it takes to deal with the multifarious tasks of a Secretary General.
