Total output of Swiss agriculture held firm during COVID-19 period

Neuchâtel, 06.10.2020 - In 2020, Swiss agriculture is expected to generate a gross value added of CHF 4.4 billion, an increase of 5.8% compared with the previous year. Total production has remained stable, while production costs have fallen. In the context of the Federal Council’s declaration of an “extraordinary” situation due to COVID-19 and the measures adopted this spring, animal and vegetable production has increased. In contrast, viticulture production has seen a worsening situation. These initial estimates for the current year are based on the economic accounts for agriculture compiled by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
