Closures and diversions of hiking trails and cycle and mountain bike routes can now be found at map.geo.admin.ch
Bern, 20.08.2020 - Route closures and detours for non-motorised traffic are now published on the Swiss Federal map viewer map.geo.admin.ch. Thanks to the cooperation between the Swiss Hiking Federation and SwitzerlandMobility, the data is recorded in a standardised and coordinated manner, updated daily and published via web services.
The new maps inform users of signposted paths about any current closures and detours due to maintenance work, landslides or forest work, for example. The information is uniform throughout Switzerland and covers hiking trails and cycle, mountain bike and roller-skating routes. Information on hiking trail closures is still under construction as regards nationwide coverage and is constantly being expanded.
Information is also marked on the terrain
Only route closures and redirections lasting at least one week will be published. In addition, this information is marked on the terrain. In order to ensure a high degree of relevance, the information is updated daily.
However, this does not release the user from taking personal responsibility: barriers, hazards, regulations and information boards as well as diversion signs on-site must be observed.
Freely available to all
The new service is the result of cooperation between the Federal Roads Office FEDRO and the Federal Office of Topography swisstopo. The information on path closures and diversions is collected by the cantonal hiking trail organisations and non-motorised traffic offices. It is then checked by the Swiss Hiking Federation and SwitzerlandMobility. Open data interfaces enable the freely available data (opendata) to be integrated into other online services, thus ensuring widespread dissemination.
