Swiss Confederation dedicated CHF 2.6 billion to research in 2019

Neuchâtel, 07.07.2020 - In 2019, the Confederation spent CHF 2.6 billion undertaking or in support of research and development activities. Compared with 2017, the last year observed, this represents an increase of CHF 279 million (+12%). Almost 90% of the funding was dedicated to the support and promotion of research, in the form of federal contributions. During the same period, the number of federal staff dedicated to research activities also grew (+19) to just over 1000 jobs (in full-time equivalents). These findings are based on the processing of administrative data by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
