Convictions of adults fell slightly, those of juveniles rose

Neuchâtel, 29.06.2020 - In 2019, 105 440 adult convictions were recorded in the convictions register (VOSTRA) (–3% compared with the previous year). 1980 of the convictions were accompanied with expulsion: this means that mandatory expulsion was applied in 58% of relevant cases. The way of recording entries in the convictions register has been modified, enabling the application rate to be calculated in 2019 for the first time for all offences for which an expulsion is compulsory. In the same year there were 14 773 juvenile convictions – 6% more than in the previous year. The increase is particularly high for offences under the Criminal Code and the Road Traffic Act (+10% and +13% respectively). These are some of the latest findings from the Conviction Statistics of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
