Almost 12% of deaths in hospitals are preceded by palliative care

Neuchâtel, 08.06.2020 - Almost 12% of persons who died in hospital in 2018 received complex or specialised palliative care during their last hospitalisation, with the aim in particular of avoiding pain and complications. This share was 29% for people with tumours. In total, some 5900 people received palliative care in hospital in 2018, more than 80% of which had a tumour. These are the findings of a new publication from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
