The number of agricultural holdings continued to fall in 2019

Neuchâtel, 11.05.2020 - In 2019, there were 50 038 farms in Switzerland, i.e. 1.6% fewer than in 2018. They employed 150 100 people and enabled a utilised agricultural area (UAA) of 1.04 million hectares to be farmed. The numbers of dairy cows (–1.7%) and pigs (–4.1%) fell, whereas poultry numbers rose (+2.5%). With 7284 farms, organic farming continues to gain in importance, according to the 2019 farm structure census compiled by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
