Social assistance recipients in 2018 - Social assistance rate falls to 3.2%

Neuchâtel, 23.12.2019 - In 2018, 272 700 persons in Switzerland received social assistance in the form of a financial benefit on at least one occasion. Both the number of social assistance recipients and the social assistance rate thus fell for the first time since 2008. Of all cases with a benefit withdrawal, 49 300 persons were able to leave social assistance, corresponding to a share of 28.1%. This leaving rate has been calculated in the current reporting year for the first time. These are some of the findings from the current Swiss Social Assistance Statistics conducted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
