Walter Kälin appointed to UN High-Level Panel on Internal Displacement
Bern, 04.12.2019 - The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) welcomes UN Secretary-General António Guterres' decision to appoint Swiss law professor Walter Kälin as one of the experts of the UN's newly established High-Level Panel on Internal Displacement, which is tasked with finding solutions to internal displacement and alleviating its impact.
The decision to establish the High-Level Panel on Internal Displacement was taken at the end of October. The experts will advise the panel in its search for solutions for more than 41 million people who are currently internally displaced as a result of conflict and violence. Professor Kälin's appointment is a recognition of his extensive expertise in this field. He has previously served the UN in various capacities, including between 2004 and 2010 as Representative of the Secretary-General on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons. The FDFA welcomes this decision.
