New Indonesian Trade Minister Agus Suparmanto pays visit to Bern

Bern, 02.12.2019 - On 2 December, Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, the head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER, will receive the Indonesian trade minister, Agus Suparmanto, who was recently appointed to the new cabinet of President Joko Widodo. Talks will focus on bilateral economic relations and the ratification of the free trade agreement between the EFTA states and Indonesia.

The meeting between Mr Parmelin and Mr Suparmanto will provide an opportunity to take stock of bilateral economic relations between Switzerland and Indonesia. The two ministers are set to discuss conditions for investment and business opportunities for Swiss firms in Indonesia, as well as progress towards ratifying the free trade agreement.

With a population of 263 million, a high demand for infrastructure projects and strong economic growth, the Indonesian market offers considerable potential for the Swiss economy. Switzerland is a major investor in Indonesia. As of the end of 2017, the 150 Swiss companies operating in the country had invested a total of CHF 6.9 billion. In addition to a free trade agreement, negotiations on an investment protection agreement are also of particular importance in order to ensure a solid legal framework for the Swiss private sector.
