US statements on Israeli settlements: Switzerland’s statement
Bern, 19.11.2019 - Following yesterday's American statements on Israeli settlements, Switzerland confirms its position.
Switzerland's position towards Israeli settlements is very clear: they are illegal under international law, in particular the Fourth Geneva Convention. They also constitute a major obstacle to peace and the implementation of a two-State solution. This position has notably been stated in UN Security Council Resolution 2334.
Switzerland regularly calls on the Israeli authorities to cease all settlement activity, in accordance with their obligations as the occupying power.
Switzerland is also committed to a negotiated two-state solution based on the 1967 borders. That is the only solution that can lead to a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
