Finance Minister Ueli Maurer to attend meeting of EU and EFTA economics and finance ministers

Bern, 07.11.2019 - On 8 November 2019, President Ueli Maurer will attend the meeting of EU and EFTA economics and finance ministers in Brussels. This year, the focus will be on sustainable finance opportunities and challenges.

Climate change, the 2030 Agenda, the Paris Agreement and growing public awareness of sustainability issues are challenging both the EU and EFTA countries.

The financial sector can play an important role in overcoming these challenges, be it through improved risk diversification or better risk management. The meeting will provide an opportunity to exchange views and national experiences in this area.

The EU and EFTA economics and finance ministers meet annually in Brussels. This year, in line with the rotation cycle, Switzerland will lead the EFTA delegation, which also includes Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
