Swiss expert Marcel Jullier re-elected to UN Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions

Bern, 01.11.2019 - The UN General Assembly has re-elected Swiss expert Marcel Jullier for a second three-year term on the UN Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions. Mr Jullier is a specialist in accounting and controlling. His re-election also advances Switzerland's efforts for adequate Swiss representation in international organisations.

The Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ) reviews for the UN General Assembly all of the UN Secretary-General's proposals in the areas of finance, human resources and administration of the UN. This includes, in particular, the budget of the UN and its subsidiary bodies, many of which are based in Geneva. The role played by the ACABQ is central and in practice, its recommendations are often decisive.

Marcel Jullier is the first Swiss expert to sit on the Committee. He is a specialist in accounting and controlling and has many years of experience working in administration, finance and human resources in international organisations. Mr Jullier has held a number of managerial positions, including with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the United Nations Development Fund for Women, UN Women, and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Prior to his position on the ACABQ, Mr Jullier was employed as an adviser at the United Nations and International Organisations Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).

The FDFA welcomes the re-election of Marcel Jullier for a second term of office, which ensures that the UN will continue to benefit from the services of an independent and highly qualified expert and marks a success for Swiss foreign policy which, among other objectives, aims to ensure that Swiss nationals are represented in international organisations. Furthermore, Mr Jullier's second term on the Committee will help advance Switzerland's efforts to improve management efficiency in finance, administration and human resources at the UN. Switzerland will also continue to support the reforms initiated by the UN in these areas.
