Ignazio Cassis attends Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie in Monaco

Bern, 29.10.2019 - Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis will attend the annual Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie in Monaco on 30 and 31 October. This will be an opportunity to review the work of the International Organisation of La Francophonie as it prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Ministers from the various member countries will be meeting to review the work of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF) and the challenges it currently faces. The IOF was set up in 1970 based on the idea of a community sharing French as a common language cooperating at multilateral level. It is the single most important international organisation of its kind.

The event will provide an ideal setting for dialogue, giving Switzerland the opportunity to share its experiences as a multilingual and French-speaking country and promote the values of peaceful coexistence and democracy. Mr Cassis will attend an official dinner and the ministerial meeting to discuss the IOF's future as it gears up to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. He will also meet several of his African counterparts during bilateral talks.
