Combating Terrorism: Coordinated operation
Bern, 29.10.2019 - The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) and the Offices of the Juvenile Prosecutor in Winterthur and Bern today conducted eleven simultaneous house searches at various addresses in the cantons of Zurich, Bern and Schaffhausen. The searches were carried out as part of criminal proceedings of the authorities involved against a total of eleven individuals. In addition to representatives from the Offices of the Juvenile Prosecutor and the Office of the Attorney General, around 100 officers from fedpol and the cantonal police forces of Bern, Zurich and Schaffhausen were involved.
In this context, the OAG is conducting six criminal proceedings against six adult suspects on suspicion of violating Art. 2 of the Federal Act on the Proscription of Al-Qaeda, Islamic State and Associated Organisations (SR 122), as well as on suspicion of supporting and participating in a criminal organisation (Art. 260ter SCC).
One of the six adults among the suspects is a returnee who has already been convicted with full legal effect of violating the IS Act (SR 122). The OAG will be filing an application to the compulsory measures court for that individual and a further suspect to be held in pre-trial detention. Both of the accused will remain in custody until the court has issued a final judgment.
The Offices of the Juvenile Prosecutor are responsible for proceedings against juvenile individuals.
The house searches were carried out in a coordinated manner as the criminal proceedings being conducted by the OAG are related to those being conducted by the two Offices of the Juvenile Prosecutor. Any questions relating to the criminal proceedings being conducted by the Offices of the Juvenile Prosecutor should be addressed directly to the relevant Office.
