Federal Council delegation holds talks with representatives of the government of the Canton of Nidwalden
Bern, 30.08.2019 - On 30 August 2019, Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis and Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin met with members of the Nidwalden Cantonal Council in Bern. At the heart of the talks was the economic conditions in Switzerland as a centre for industry. Also discussed was the implementation of the Federal Act on Private Security Services Provided Abroad.
Taking part in the meeting in Bern were the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), Ignazio Cassis, the head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), Guy Parmelin, and representatives of the Canton of Nidwalden, Alfred Bossard, Othmar Filliger and Res Schmid.
The subject of the meeting was an open exchange about the economic conditions in Switzerland as a centre for industry. Both parties agreed that Switzerland offers an outstanding business environment, citing, for example, its competitive corporate tax rate, its flexible labour market and good access to foreign markets. The challenge for Switzerland is to maintain this business-friendly environment and develop it further.
The meeting also discussed implementation of the Federal Act on Private Security Services Provided Abroad and the Goods Control Act. The Nidwalden Cantonal Council representatives presented their position regarding the Pilatus case. As the proceedings concerning this case are currently ongoing, the talks could not go into that specific matter in any depth, but the operating principles and the interplay of the various statutory regulations were discussed.
For the FDFA and EAER, going forward it will continue to be crucial for Switzerland to provide an exemplary economic and foreign policy framework.
