Switzerland counted 8.5 million inhabitants at the end of 2018

Switzerland’s population increased by 0.7% compared with 2017 and passed the mark of 8.5 million inhabitants in 2018. Apart from Neuchâtel and Ticino which saw a decrease in their population numbers, an increase was observed everywhere else. Fribourg, Valais and Schwyz are the cantons which gained the most inhabitants thanks to internal migration. These are the final results of the population and households statistics from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
