Swiss social statistics report 2019: old age and sickness cause rise in social expenditure

Neuchâtel, 04.07.2019 - The third Swiss social statistics report reveals an increasing trend of long-term unemployment and a rise in the number of single-parent households. Against a backdrop of moderate economic growth, the poverty rate has risen, whereas the social assistance rate has remained stable. In parallel with an increase in the population aged over 65, social expenditure on old age and sickness has grown. These findings come from the 2019 edition of this review published every four years by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
