'Together we're better': SDC and SECO sponsor initiatives run by committed young people

Bern, 18.01.2019 - Working with young men and women on overcoming global challenges: the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) have launched the 'Together we're better' competition, sponsoring initiatives run by young people. The SDC and SECO are looking for innovative projects run by young people in the 16–35 age group which aim to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged communities in developing countries. Prizes will be awarded to the winning projects at the 2019 Annual Development Cooperation Conference to be held in Fribourg on 21 June 2019.

The SDC and SECO wish to provide a platform for young people to become stakeholders and partners in Swiss development cooperation work. The 'Together we're better' award sponsors current and planned initiatives run by young people that help advance global sustainable development and fight poverty in development cooperation partner countries. In launching the sponsorship prize, the SDC and SECO are also hoping to engage in dialogue with the younger generation long term, with the SDC opting to use Facebook and Instagram as communication channels. Contestants are also invited to the 2019 Annual Development Cooperation Conference where they will have the opportunity to present their projects.

Prizes will be awarded to the five best projects
Projects may be submitted at https://www.sdc.admin.ch/togetherwerebetter-en by 31 March 2019. A jury comprising SDC and SECO experts and selected young people will assess the entries. Prizes will be awarded to the five best projects that meet specific criteria in the various categories:
• projects from young people under the age of 20,
• innovative projects resulting in start-ups,
• integrated approaches or ideas for projects,
• projects that receive public backing in an online vote.
Projects have the chance of winning a CHF 10,000 project contribution, the chance to obtain expert advice and a short promotional video.

Prizes will be awarded at the SDC and SECO 2019 Annual Development Cooperation Conference to be held on 21 June 2019 at the Forum Fribourg.
