Number of deaths from dementia in decline for the first time in 2016

Neuchâtel, 17.12.2018 - In 2016, 64 964 people died in Switzerland, 4% less than in the previous year. The number of people who died from dementia fell for the first time in 2016 with a decrease of over 9%. Also for the first time, more men died from cancer than from cardiovascular diseases – a development that has also been seen internationally. These are some of the findings from the new Cause of Death Statistics of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
