Bern, 14.12.2018 - The Federal Council appointed Tania Dussey-Cavassini as the new head of the Directorate for Resources of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in its meeting on 14 December 2018. This was based on her nomination by the head of the FDFA, Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis. Ms Dussey-Cavassini is currently head of Forestay River Consulting Ltd., which advises companies and institutions in corporate strategy, resource management and communication. She will take up her new post on 1 July 2019 following her predecessor, Jacques Pitteloud, who has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the United States of America by the Federal Council.
Ms Dussey-Cavassini is 51 years old and has two places of origin: Epalinges (canton of Vaud) and Ayent (canton of Valais). She has a master’s degree in law from the University of Lausanne and a teaching diploma from the University of Music in Lausanne. Ms Dussey-Cavassini also completed further studies at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne and the TAI Group in New York. She is also a fellow at Harvard University in Cambridge, US.
After five years at the Federal Department of Justice and Police's section for international criminal prosecution, in 1996 Ms Dussey-Cavassini joined the FDFA and completed a diplomatic internship. From 1997 to 2006 she worked in the former Political Division I of the Directorate of Political Affairs, at the Swiss embassy in Moscow and at the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations Office and to the other international organisations in Geneva. Ms Dussey-Cavassini left the FDFA in October 2006 and took up a new post as head of the IMD's Partnership Programme in Lausanne until July 2012. She then undertook a fellowship at Harvard University in Cambridge, US, until July 2013. Afterwards, Ms Dussey-Cavassini became vice-director general and head of the International Affairs Division at the Federal Office of Public Health of the Federal Department of Home Affairs until June 2017. Since then she has been working as the head of Forestay River Consulting Ltd., which she founded in 2012.
Having worked in various departments, acquired extensive managerial experience in both the Federal Administration and private sector institutions, and completed further studies in the field of management, Ms Dussey-Cavassini is ideally qualified to lead the Directorate for Resources – the FDFA's centre of expertise and centralised service provider for all resources-related issues.
