Settlement areas continue to grow but at a slower pace

Neuchâtel, 26.11.2018 - (FSO) - Settlement areas in Western, Central and Northern Switzerland have grown by 31% in just over three decades (from 1982 to 2015). Their share of the total surface area rose from 7.9% to 10.3%. On average, there was annual growth of 1983 hectares or 2700 football pitches. The increase was mainly at the expense of agricultural areas. These are some of the new partial results from the land use statistics conducted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
