Innosuisse launches impulse programme to promote digitalisation

Berne, 05.11.2018 - The Federal Council’s 2019-2020 action plan to support digitalisation aims to ensure that Switzerland plays a leading role in developing and applying digital technologies. To this end, Innosuisse – the Swiss Innovation Agency – is implementing two measures: at the end of November 2018, it is launching the “Manufacturing Technologies” impulse programme and is promoting the digital transformation in the fields of energy and mobility via the Swiss Competence Centers for Energy Research (SCCERs).

The aim of the “Manufacturing Technologies” impulse programme is to support innovation projects being implemented using digital technologies at the interface between research and technology transfer in Industry 4.0 and modern manufacturing technologies.

Preference for funding will be given to exploratory projects in which larger consortia or research associations work together with interdisciplinary teams from the worlds of research and industry. The projects are intended to provide the Swiss economy with quantitative benefits such as increased productivity, production flexibility or increased uptime as well as new production possibilities. As amount of CHF 12 million per year has been earmarked for this purpose. *

Digitalisation in energy and mobility
The second measure from the Federal Council’s 2019-2020 action plan that Innosuisse is implementing is the promotion of digitalisation in energy and mobility (networks, building technologies) via three SCCERs. An amount of CHF 1.5 million per year has been earmarked for this purpose. *

To mark the launch of the impulse programme, Innosuisse is organising two events in German- and French-speaking Switzerland in cooperation with SwissMEM, Industrie 2025 and the SATW (Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences). These matchmaking events allow research institutions and companies to find the right partner for their manufacturing technology innovation project and to submit a joint project proposal.

*The additional funds requested must be approved by parliament as part of its budget debate in December 2018.
