State Secretary Jörg Gasser to leave SIF

Bern, 31.10.2018 - State Secretary Jörg Gasser will leave the State Secretariat for International Finance (SIF) at the end of February 2019. After 10 years in the service of the Confederation, Gasser who is 49 years old, would like to pursue a new career path.

After the resignation of his predecessor, Jacques de Watteville due to his age, Jörg Gasser was appointed as the State Secretary for International Finance on 20 April 2016. Before this he had already been the Secretary General of the Federal Department of Finance (FDF) since 2011. In the period of almost three years in this post, important events have occurred in the context of Swiss financial policy, for example the introduction of the automatic exchange of information.

State Secretary Jörg Gasser played a very influential role in all important international financial, tax and monetary policy matters. He also made an important contribution to developments in the fintech and blockchain areas in terms of framework conditions and regulations. The cultivation of bilateral relations and the intensification of cooperation with new and emerging markets (Asia, Middle East and Latin America) were among State Secretary Gasser's most important tasks. Under his leadership, SIF also became an important institution for the promotion of the Swiss financial centre.

Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer regrets the departure of his State Secretary: "the collaboration with State Secretary Gasser is extremely collegial and constructive, his work is characterised by innovative projects with which he has already set new standards and significantly influenced developments for the benefit of the Swiss financial centre. This is why I regret his decision very much. However, I also understand his desire for change and reorientation at this point in his life".

The post of the State Secretary for International Finance will now be advertised within the scope of the normal procedure.
