Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer travelling to Israel with Swiss financial and fintech representatives
Bern, 14.09.2018 - On 16 September 2018, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer will meet the Israeli Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon in Jerusalem on a working visit. He will be accompanied by the State Secretary, Jörg Gasser, other Swiss officials and representatives of the Swiss financial centre and of fintech companies. Furthermore, Federal Councillor Maurer will pay a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. On the same day, Switzerland and Israel will conduct a financial dialogue for the second time.
On 16 September 2018, the finance ministers will exchange views in Jerusalem on current financial and tax issues and the situation on the Israeli financial market. In addition, State Secretary Jörg Gasser will continue the financial dialogue with the Israeli Finance Ministry and the bodies relevant to financial market issues. Private-sector representatives will have the opportunity to take part in the meetings in Israel and raise their concerns.
The visit will take place following the meetings of the two Finance Ministers of 17 April 2018 in Zurich and of 4 September 2017 in Tel Aviv. At last year's meeting, Finance Minister Maurer and his counterpart signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to intensify cooperation between Switzerland and Israel in the area of financial services. In doing so, they emphasised their readiness to maintain a regular financial dialogue between their ministries. The first such dialogue took place on the same day.
The exchange with state and private-sector players in Israel will take place in the context of Switzerland's financial market policy for a competitive Swiss financial centre. This also includes opening doors for the private sector overseas.
On 17 September 2018, State Secretary Jörg Gasser will also meet representatives of the Palestinian authorities and economic and financial players.
