Swiss Bretton Woods constituency meets in Warsaw

Bern, 02.07.2018 - On 2 July 2018, Federal Councillors Ueli Maurer and Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, together with Swiss National Bank Chairman Thomas Jordan will take part in the meeting of the Swiss constituency in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, the Bretton Woods institutions, in Warsaw.

At the invitation of the Polish authorities, a meeting of the Swiss constituency in the Bretton Woods institutions will take place on 2 July 2018. At the meeting, the constituency members will discuss the most important current business of the IMF and World Bank and thereby also the challenges currently faced by the global economy such as the imminent rise in interest rates and the growing trade disputes. In addition, representatives of the constituency will address issues to do with capital transactions in a networked world, as well as innovation, growth and the role of the state in a seminar. Federal Councillors Maurer and Schneider-Ammann will conduct bilateral talks with their counterparts on the fringes of the meeting.

The members of the Swiss Bretton Woods constituency meet as a rule every two years outside the customary meetings of the ministerial committees of the IMF and World Bank in a constituency country. Along with Switzerland, the group consists of Poland, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic and, in the World Bank, Uzbekistan.
