Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer to attend FIFA World Cup round of 16 Switzerland vs. Sweden
Bern, 29.06.2018 - After the President of the Swiss Confederation, Alain Besert, and the Sports Minister, Guy Parmelin, each watched the Swiss national football team in one of the games in the group stage, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer will now travel to the round of 16 game between Switzerland and Sweden in Saint Petersburg.
Federal Councillor Maurer was interested in attending the third game of the group stage on 27 June against Costa Rica but had to abandon this plan due to diary constraints. As the Swiss national football team succeeded in qualifying for the round of 16, the opportunity has arisen for Federal Councillor Maurer to watch a match in Russia and actively support the Swiss team after all. Federal Councillor Maurer will travel directly from Warsaw where he will be attending a meeting of Switzerland's IMF constituency on Monday, 2 July 2018.
