Social expenditure increased by 3.3% in 2016

Neuchâtel, 21.06.2018 - (FSO) – In 2016 expenditure on social benefits in Switzerland was CHF 170 billion. This corresponds to 26% of the GDP. The increase compared with the previous year can be attributed to the areas of old age and sickness/healthcare that account for the biggest share of expenditure both in Switzerland and in European countries. These are the latest findings from the Total Social Security Accounts of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
