President Berset and Federal Councillor Parmelin to travel to Russia for FIFA World Cup

Bern, 11.06.2018 - It has been confirmed that two members of the Federal Council will be travelling to Russia for the World Cup. President Alain Berset will visit Russia between 16 and 17 June and attend Switzerland’s group match against Brazil in Rostov-on-Don on Sunday, 17 June. Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin will be heading to Kaliningrad for the match against Serbia on 22 June.

During his stay in Russia, President Berset will meet with Vasily Golubev, the governor of Rostov Oblast (administrative district) to discuss issues in the region on the border with Ukraine. He is also expected to attend a cultural event with Russian, Brazilian and Swiss musicians. In addition, Mr Berset will visit the Swiss squad at a training session before the first match.

The head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) will be attending Switzerland's match against Serbia on Friday, 22 June.
