School inauguration in Lostallo: Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis visits the Italian-speaking part of Graubünden

Bern, 09.06.2018 - Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis has participated in the opening of a new primary school in Lostallo. Mr Cassis's visit underscored the importance of the Italian-speaking areas of the canton of Graubünden for Switzerland's national cohesion.

Mr Cassis has inaugurated a new primary school in Lostallo together with Cantonal Councillor Martin Jäger, head of the Department of Education, Culture and Environmental Protection of the canton of Graubünden. One of the highlights of the day was a performance by primary school children. The ceremony was also an opportunity for Mr Cassis to meet residents of Moesa region.

Mr Cassis's visit to Lostallo underscored the importance of the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland for national cohesion. In his speech, Mr Cassis pointed out “that linguistic and cultural diversity is a key factor in Switzerland's success.” Indeed, in a speech he made following his election to the Federal Council on 20 September 2017, Mr Cassis emphasised the importance of 'Italianità' to Switzerland, specifically mentioning not only Ticino but also the Italian-speaking valleys of Graubünden.
