New head of Directorate of International Law and heads of mission appointed

Bern, 09.05.2018 - A number of staff changes at head office in Bern and in several Swiss representations have been announced for 2018/2019. The changes will take place as part of the usual transfer rotation and on the basis of appointments made by the Federal Council. The appointment of heads of mission abroad becomes effective following approval by the respective host state.

Corinne Cicéron Bühler has been newly appointed head of the Directorate of International Law and legal adviser for the FDFA (with the title of ambassador).

Ms Cicéron Bühler, born 1974, has a law degree specialising in European law from the University of Fribourg (French/German bilingual) and an LLM in European law from the College of Europe in Bruges. She joined the FDFA in 1999 and undertook various postings in Switzerland and abroad, starting with the General Services and later the diplomatic service. In 2010 Ms Bühler began working for the Directorate of  International Law (DIL) where she coordinated the representation of Switzerland’s interests in the case of Belgium v. Switzerland before the International Court of justice. After Belgium withdrew its case, Ms Bühler was appointed head of the International Law section at the DIL. In 2015 she was posted to the Swiss embassy in Tel Aviv as deputy head of mission. In March 2017 Ms Bühler was appointed assistant director and head of Division II (international law, international treaties and law on transborder relations) at the DIL and in March 2018 she was appointed head a.i. of the directorate (with the title of ambassador).

Markus Dutly, currently head of mission in Accra, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

Stefano Lazzarotto, currently head of mission in Muscat, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Armenia.

Adrian Maître, currently deputy chief of the Cooperation with Eastern Europe Department at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Bern, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Albania.
