New Swiss ambassadors

Bern, 28.03.2018 - A number of staff changes have been announced for 2018 for the Swiss embassy in Harare, the head office of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research. The changes will take place as part of the usual transfer rotation and on the basis of appointments made by the Federal Council. The appointment of heads of mission abroad becomes effective following approval by the respective host state.

Niculin Jäger, currently head of mission in Brasilia, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Zimbabwe and to the Republic of Malawi, based in Harare.

Maya Jaouhari Tissafi will be appointed, in addition to her current function as head of mission in Abu Dhabi, permanent representative of Switzerland to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), based in Abu Dhabi.

Hans-Peter Lenz, currently head of mission in Amman, will become the new head of the Crisis Management Centre in the State Secretariat of the FDFA in Bern. To allow him to carry out this new function, the Federal Council has conferred on him the title of ambassador.

Stefan Flückiger, currently head (with the title of ambassador) of the Sectoral Foreign Policies Division of the Directorate of Political Affairs in Bern, will become the new head of the Special Foreign Economic Service Division at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research in Bern. To allow him to carry out this new function, the Federal Council has conferred on him the title of ambassador. The Federal Council has also authorised him to use the title of Federal Council Delegate for Trade Agreements.

Erwin Bollinger, currently head of the Export Controls and Sanctions Division and deputy head of the Bilateral Economic Relations Division, will become the new head of the Bilateral Economic Relations Division at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research in Bern. To allow him to carry out this new function, the Federal Council has conferred on him the title of ambassador. The Federal Council has also authorised him to use the title of Federal Council Delegate for Trade Agreements.

Jean-Jacques Elmiger, currently head of International Labour Affairs (with the title of ambassador) at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research in Bern, will represent Switzerland in the organisation, planning and preparation of the centenary celebrations of the International Labour Organization and will submit a report about this work to the Federal Council. To allow him to carry out this function, the Federal Council has conferred on him the title of ambassador.
