“Parkett” – contemporary art at the Swiss National Library

Bern, 27.02.2018 - The Swiss National Library in Bern presents a look back at the “Parkett” art book series, which concluded in 2017. The vernissage takes place on 1 March, in the presence of editors Jacqueline Burckhardt and Bice Curiger, and the exhibition runs until 29 June 2018.

The “Parkett” art book series, which was produced from 1984 to 2017 by Jacqueline Burckhardt, Bice Curiger, Dieter von Graffenried and others, was a key influence on contemporary art. It also brought art into its readers’ living rooms. Now, the 101 books are on show at the Swiss National Library in a presentation that recreates the living-room atmosphere. They are being exhibited for the first time in their entirety. Also on display are a selection of editions: works of art created and distributed in close association with the book series. They include editions by Jeff Koons and Pipilotti Rist as well as the last work by Andy Warhol. Video recordings feature participants such as curator and author Hans Ulrich Obrist, the artist Mai-Thu Perret and the author, publisher and actor Patrick Frey speaking about their work with, for and on “Parkett”.

All issues of “Parkett” up to and including no. 94 (2014) have recently been made available free of charge on the online platform e-periodica. The exhibition and digitisation project are the result of a close collaboration between the Swiss National Library and the Parkett publishing house.
