Income and living conditions (SILC) 2015 - Social transfers reduce poverty by more than half
Neuchâtel, 17.10.2017 - (FSO) – In Switzerland, social transfers make a considerable contribution to reducing poverty: the poverty rate would be more than twice as high without these transfers. A particularly strong decline in the poverty rate is found among persons in households with very young or several children. However, there is hardly any change in the risk factors for poverty. Persons with a low level of education, inadequate integration into the labour market and lone-parent households are most often affected by poverty both before and after social transfers. These are some of the results from the new publication on “Poverty before social transfers” by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
