Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer with G20 finance ministers and on working visit to Central Asia

Bern, 07.07.2017 - On 7 July 2017, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer will take part in the G20 summit in Hamburg on the fringes at the meeting of the G20 finance ministers and will subsequently visit several countries in Central Asia. The trip, in the context of the 25th anniversary of the existence of the Swiss constituency in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank, will last from 8 to 12 July and will take the Swiss delegation to Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. In Hamburg and in Central Asia, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer will be accompanied by Jörg Gasser, State Secretary for International Financial Matters.

Important topics at the G20 finance minister meeting in Hamburg will be the resilience of national economies to crises, international financial architecture and sustainable global growth. International tax matters will also be discussed and the implementation of the agreed standards in the area of financial market regulation.

Meetings with finance ministers, central bank governors, government members and representatives of the local and Swiss private sectors are envisaged in the working visits to the three Central Asian countries. On 11 July 2017, the Swiss delegation will also pay a visit to the Swiss pavilion at the Expo 2017 in Astana.

The trip is taking place in the context of the 25th anniversary of the existence of the Swiss constituency in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank. On behalf of this constituency, Switzerland holds one of the 24 seats in the Executive Boards of the IMF and World Bank. In addition to Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, Poland, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan (only in the World Bank) belong to the constituency led by Switzerland.
