Switzerland ratifies the Final Acts of the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-15)

Bern, 09.06.2017 - At its meeting on 9 June 2017, the Federal Council approved ratification of the Final Acts of the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-15) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). With this ratification, Switzerland is laying the foundations which will enable it to continue to respond to the increasing demand for frequencies in the information and communication technologies sector, in particular with a view to introducing the new mobile communication standard (5G).

WRC-15 was held in Geneva in November 2015 under the aegis of the International Telecommunication Union. It concluded with the signature of the Final Acts which amend a number of articles, appendices and resolutions of the ITU's Radio Regulations. The revision of the Regulations, which includes global planning of the spectrum allocated to radiocommunications, relates to various service categories, including broadband mobile radiocommunication, monitoring of civil aviation flights and applications associated with earth monitoring.

The Final Acts provide the foundations for a re-evaluation of the National Frequency Allocation Plan (NFAP), an essential instrument for radio frequency resource planning at the national level.
