The FDFA condemns executions in Gaza
Bern, 10.04.2017 - The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) condemns the execution of three people by the de facto authorities in Gaza on 6 April 2017. In recent months, the FDFA has contacted the competent authorities in Gaza on several occasions with a view to preventing a resumption of this practice.
Switzerland reiterates its strong opposition to the death penalty. It appeals to the de facto authorities in Gaza to grant a stay of execution for all death sentences and to declare a moratorium on the application of the death penalty. A moratorium is already in place in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Switzerland reaffirmed this position at a meeting in Bern today, 10 April 2017, with the head of the Mission of Palestine.
