Swiss professor to co-chair group of experts for the first Global Sustainable Development Report

Bern, 12.01.2017 - Switzerland welcomes the appointment of Professor Peter Messerli of the University of Bern as co-chair of a panel of experts selected to draft the first Global Sustainable Development Report on the 2030 Agenda. His candidacy as an independent expert was supported by Switzerland.

Before leaving office at the end of 2016, former Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed the 15 experts to draft the Global Sustainable Development Report. Publication of the report is scheduled for 2019.

The Global Sustainable Development Report, which will be published every four years, will aim to strengthen the science-policy interface and provide an instrument to support policymakers in promoting poverty eradication and sustainable development. It will also be useful to a wide range of stakeholders, including business, civil society and the general public. The appointment of Professor Messerli, Director of the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) of the University of Bern, strengthens Switzerland’s presence within the United Nations for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
