Switzerland's new consuls general

Bern, 13.12.2016 - The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs announces the following appointments:

Urs Brönnimann will become the Swiss consul general in São Paulo. He will take over from Claudio Leoncavallo in the second half of 2017.

Urs Brönnimann was born in 1960, place of origin Wald in the canton of Bern.  He joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and has been posted to Besançon, Lima, Bern, Colombo, Chicago, Havana, Dublin, La Paz, Washington and San José.

Since December 2013, Urs Brönnimann has been deputy head of mission in Budapest.

Urs Hammer will become the Swiss consul general in Frankfurt. He will take over from Markus Meli in summer 2017.

Urs Hammer was born in 1960, place of origin Rossa in the canton of Graubünden. He joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1992 and has had various postings in Bern, Paris, Geneva, Rome and Brussels (EU mission). From 2008 to 2012, Mr Hammer worked as deputy head of mission in Berlin.

Since September 2012, Urs Hammer has headed the mission in Luxembourg.

Bernadette Hunkeler Brown will become the Swiss consul general in Sydney. She will take over from Ernst Steinmann in summer 2017.

Bernadette Hunkeler Brown was born in 1960, place of origin Ebersecken in the canton of Lucerne. She joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and has been posted to Venice, New York, Rome, Canberra, Santo Domingo, Wellington, Maputo and Dublin. From 2009–2013, Bernadette Hunkeler Brown headed the Swiss consulate general in Toronto.

Since August 2013, Bernadette Hunkeler Brown has been the consul general in Cape Town.

Roger Kull will become the Swiss consul general in St Petersburg. He will take over from Michel Faillettaz in summer 2017.

Roger Kull was born in 1959, place of origin Winterthur in the canton of Zurich. He joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1984 and has been posted to Bern, Montreal, Accra, Lima, Istanbul, Los Angeles, Kingston, Sydney, Wellington and Havana.

Since August 2014, Roger Kull has been deputy head of mission in Islamabad.

Claudio Leoncavallo will become the Swiss consul general in Marseille. He will take over from Marianne Gerber Szabo at the end of 2017. 

Claudio Leoncavallo was born in 1958, place of origin Lausanne in the canton of Vaud. He joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1981 and has been posted to Düsseldorf, New Orleans, Atlanta, Jeddah, Lyon, Bern, Los Angeles, Berlin, Toronto, Abidjan and Atlanta.

Since September 2013, Claudio Leoncavallo has been the consul general in São Paulo.

Andreas Markus Maager will become the Swiss consul general in Cape Town. He will take over from Bernadette Hunkeler Brown in summer 2017.

Andreas Markus Maager was born in 1959, place of origin St Gallen. He joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1984 and has been posted to Dijon, Den Haag, Riyadh, Kuwait, Annecy, Houston, Los Angeles, Dakar, Brussels and Abu Dhabi. From September 2009, he headed the Swiss Citizen Services at the Consular Directorate in Bern.

Since August 2013, Andreas Markus Maager has been the consul general in Atlanta.

Nathalie Marti will become the consul general in Istanbul. She will take over from Monika Schmutz Kirgöz in summer 2017.
 
Nathalie Marti was born in 1966, place of origin Gettnau in the canton of Lucerne. She joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1992, beginning her career in the FDFA/FDEA Integration Office. In 1996, Nathalie Marti joined the diplomatic service, completing her diplomatic internship in Dublin, The Hague and Luxembourg, before returning to the Integration Office. She was then posted to Moscow, Ottawa, Bern and Brussels (EU mission). From 2009, she assumed the role of deputy head of protocol and from 2012, head of protocol with the title of Ambassador.

Since August 2016, Ms Marti has been deputy head of mission in Ankara.

Ernst Steinmann will become the Swiss consul general in Stuttgart. He will take over from Irene Flückiger Sutter in summer 2017.

Ernst Steinmann was born in 1957, place of origin Lauperswil in the canton of Bern. He joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1980 and has occupied various postings in Cape Town, Vienna, Tel Aviv, Marseille, Maputo, Brasilia, Istanbul, Addis Ababa and Bern. From 2006 to 2009 he was the head of the Consular Protection Section at the Consular Directorate in Bern and from 2009 to 2013 he headed the Swiss consulate general in St Petersburg.

Since August 2013, Ernst Steinmann has been the consul general in Sydney.

Rudolf Wyss will become the Swiss consul general in Rio de Janeiro. He will take over from Giancarlo Fenini in the second half of 2017. 

Rudolf Wyss was born in 1963, place of origin Bern. He joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1985 and has been posted to Bern, Yaoundé, Nice, Baghdad, Toronto, Belgrade, Cairo, Kingston, Bangkok, São Paulo and Kuwait.

Since August 2012, Rudolf Wyss has been head of operations in Beijing.

Peter Zimmerli will become the Swiss consul general in Atlanta. He will take over from Andreas Maager in summer 2017.

Peter Zimmerli was born in 1957, place of origin Oftringen in the canton of Aargau. He joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1985 and has occupied various posts in Bern, Rio de Janeiro, Kinshasa, Curitiba, Düsseldorf, Bonn, São Paulo, Genoa and Singapore.

Since July 2013, Peter Zimmerli has headed the Relations with the Swiss Abroad Division at the Consular Directorate in Bern.
